Prerequisites

  • You must have Administrator access to your XWiki instance.

1. Create a amberconnector user in XWiki

Important: The amberconnector user only needs to be created within XWiki itself (Standard XWiki Authenticator) at the global level. You do not need to create this user in your Active Directory, LDAP, or SSO system if you have external authentication configured.

  1. Log in to your XWiki instance as an administrator.

  2. Navigate to Global Administration β†’ Users & Rights β†’ Users.

    • You can typically access this via the URL: https://<your-xwiki-domain>/bin/admin/XWiki/XWikiPreferences?editor=globaladmin&section=Users

  3. Fill out the Create user form with the following details:

    • First Name: Amber

    • Last Name: Connector

    • Username: amberconnector

    • Password: Choose a strong, secure password.

  4. Important: Ensure you are creating a global user, not a local (wiki-specific) one.

  5. Click Register (or Create) to create the user.

2. Add the user to the XWikiAdminGroup

The amberconnector user needs to be added to the XWikiAdminGroup to ensure it has access to all content, user profiles, and group memberships without requiring explicit view permissions on individual pages.

  1. Navigate to Global Administration β†’ Users & Rights β†’ Groups.

    • You can typically access this via the URL: https://<your-xwiki-domain>/bin/admin/XWiki/XWikiPreferences?editor=globaladmin&section=Groups

  2. Find the group named XWikiAdminGroup.

  3. Edit the group.

    • Direct link example: https://<your-xwiki-domain>/bin/edit/XWiki/XWikiAdminGroup

  4. In the Users to add section:

    • Select or search for the amberconnector user you just created.

  5. Click Add to add the user to the group.

Why this is necessary: Without administrator group membership, the user cannot see all contents, users, and groups they are not explicitly members of or have not been granted explicit view rights on. The XWikiAdminGroup membership provides comprehensive access needed for complete indexing and user authentication.

3. Share Credentials

Once the user is created and assigned to the XWikiAdminGroup, please securely share the following information with the Amber support team:

  1. URL of your XWiki instance.

  2. Username (amberconnector)

  3. Password
